SENIOR HOUSING DESIGN

Chico, CA

Three story – four building complex with 111 residential units and resident commons area including laundry, lounge, kitchen/family dining, recreation, and meeting rooms.

A challenge for this project was that funding was contingent on a requirement for exceeding T-24 energy by at least 15%. Through passive features incorporated in the design along with energy efficient mechanical equipment and electrical fixtures this prerequisite was achieved. It is worthwhile noting the process for this project included working closely with the developer/builder for economy of construction while engineered to maintain the goals set for the project.

Two-bedroom units were designed with split system air conditioners with hot water coil for heating using hot water from the domestic gas water heater. One-bedroom units were served by high efficiency through the wall units and gas furnaces. 92% efficient furnaces serve the common areas and corridors.
